The Care of Quilts
Always remember and respect the hours that went into the making of a quilt. To assure long life for your quilt, proper care is essential. To wash a quilt, use tepid to cool water and a mild detergent. Run the machine on a short cycle. To keep colors bright, always use 2 cups of white vinegar to the wash cycle, but PLEASE do not wash the quilt unless you have to.
The appliqued quilt - I'd advise to only dry clean, as they are more fragile. They can be washed very gently.
The ideal way to dry a quilt is to hang it on a line outside. The sun freshens a quilt as nothing else can. If you must use a dryer, tumble dry with cool air until ALMOST dry. NEVER press a quilt with an iron.
When it is not in use, store your quilt on a hanger in a closet that is not crowded; in a cedar chest; or in a cardboard box, but NEVER in Plastic wrappers. A quilt must be allowed to breather at all times. When you take a quilt out of storage, air it out. Lay it on the grass and let the sun penetrate it, or tumble it in a cool dryer for a short time. Never fold a quilt the same way day after day. If a quilt is stored folded, re-fold it at least once a month. These simple measures assure fewer crease lines and a perfect shape for years.
I am not responsible for the quilt if it is not taken care of right.
